Why it matters

Why loft insulation is the smartest first step

If your home only ever gets one energy upgrade, loft insulation should usually be it. Heat rises, and in a poorly insulated home a huge share of the warmth you pay for simply drifts out through the roof. Insulating the loft traps that heat inside, so your heating works less hard and your bills come down.

It's also one of the most affordable improvements you can make, with no disruption to how your home looks or works. There are no radiators to move, no pipework, no mess — just a warmer, more comfortable home that costs less to run.

Around 25% of heat is lost through the roof

In an uninsulated home, roughly a quarter of all heating escapes upward. Bringing your loft up to the recommended 270mm depth is the most cost-effective way to stop it.

How much does loft insulation cost?

At Aspire Energy, professional loft insulation starts from £1,400, fully fitted. The exact price depends on a few simple things: the size of your loft, how much insulation (if any) is already up there, and how easy the space is to access.

Rather than guess, we give you a clear, fixed price after a free survey — so you know exactly what you'll pay before any work starts. No estimates that creep up, no surprises on the day.

  • Loft size — larger lofts need more material and time.
  • Existing insulation — topping up is cheaper than starting from scratch; old or damp insulation may need removing first.
  • Access & boarding — awkward access or a need to re-board the loft can affect the price.

Our loft packages — from insulation to a fully usable loft

Most people start with insulation, but your loft can do so much more. We offer four packages, so you can simply keep the heat in, or turn a dusty, awkward roof space into safe, usable storage you can actually walk into.

Package 1
Loft Insulation

Quality Knauf insulation laid to the recommended 270mm depth. The essential upgrade for a warmer home and lower bills.

Package 2
Insulation + Boarding

Insulation plus raised loft boarding on purpose-made legs — so you get the warmth and a proper boarded floor for storage, without crushing the insulation.

Package 3
Insulation + Boarding + Hatch

Everything in Package 2, plus a larger easy-access loft hatch with a fitted wooden loft ladder — turning your loft into a safe, walk-up storage space.

Package 4
Boarding + Hatch

Already insulated? Add raised boarding and an easy-access hatch with ladder to unlock your loft for storage, no new insulation needed.

Loft boarding — storage without losing the warmth

The mistake many people make is laying boards straight onto the joists, which crushes the insulation beneath and undoes its benefit. We fit raised loft boarding on purpose-made legs that sit above a full depth of insulation — so you keep every bit of thermal performance and gain a solid, usable floor for boxes, cases and seasonal storage.

Easy-access loft hatch & ladder — open up the whole space

A small, awkward hatch is what stops most people using their loft. Our easy-access package fits a larger, insulated loft hatch with an integrated wooden loft ladder — sturdy, simple to pull down, and safe to climb. Suddenly the whole roof space becomes accessible storage rather than a dusty gap you can barely reach.

  • A bigger, safer opening — easy to get through, with a proper ladder rather than a wobbly stepladder.
  • An insulated, draught-sealed hatch — so the new access doesn't become a new source of heat loss.
  • A whole new world of storage — reclaim the space above your head for everything cluttering your home.
  • Optional loft light — we can fit a switched light so you're never rummaging in the dark.

The accessible hatch + boarding go together

The easy-access hatch and ladder are fitted as part of a boarding package — because there's little point making the loft easy to get into without a safe, boarded floor to stand on once you're up there. Ask us about Packages 3 and 4 at your free survey.

How much could loft insulation save you?

The clearest figures come from the Energy Saving Trust. For a gas-heated home going from an uninsulated loft up to the recommended 270mm depth, their 2026 estimates are:

  • Semi-detached house: around £580 a year on heating bills.
  • Detached house: around £355 a year.
  • Topping up from 100mm to 270mm: around £135 a year — smaller, because the first layers do most of the work.

There's a carbon saving too: the Energy Saving Trust estimates a semi-detached home cuts around 600kg of CO₂ a year after loft insulation, and a detached home around 1,000kg.

A note on the figures

These are Energy Saving Trust estimates for gas-heated homes at 2026 prices, and your actual saving depends on your property, heating system and energy tariff. Homes heated by oil, LPG or electricity often save more. We'll talk through what's realistic for your home at your free survey.

What's involved in the installation

Loft insulation is refreshingly straightforward. After your free survey, our installers arrive at the agreed time, protect your home, and lay insulation to the recommended depth across the loft floor — making sure it sits above every heated room without blocking ventilation. Most homes are completed within a single day.

We tidy up completely before we leave, and back the work with a guarantee. You'll feel the difference the next cold evening.

The types of loft insulation we install

  • Blanket roll (mineral/glass wool) — the most common and cost-effective option for standard accessible lofts.
  • Loose-fill / blown insulation — ideal for irregular or hard-to-reach spaces.
  • Room-in-roof insulation — for loft conversions and rooms built into the roof space. Ask us about this option.

Loft insulation FAQs

Professional loft insulation with Aspire starts from £1,400, fully fitted. The exact price depends on your loft size, existing insulation depth and access. We give you a fixed quote after a free survey, so there are no surprises.
The Energy Saving Trust estimates that insulating an uninsulated loft to 270mm saves a gas-heated semi-detached home around £580 a year and a detached home around £355 a year (2026 prices). Topping up existing insulation saves less. Your actual saving depends on your property, heating system and tariff.
Most loft insulation jobs are completed in a single day, with very little disruption to your home.
The current recommended depth is around 270mm of mineral wool. Many older homes have much less, or none at all. Our surveyor measures your existing depth and advises exactly what's needed to bring it up to standard.
Not when it's done correctly. Proper loft insulation maintains the ventilation your roof space needs, which is exactly why professional installation matters. We make sure airflow is preserved while heat loss is stopped.
